Tassie Divers and the Forum Rules

WELCOME

Welcome to Tassie Divers. We're a motley group of SCUBA Divers who get online and discuss diving in general and diving Tasmanian waters in particular. The forums include a range of subjects related to diving, including dive logs, planning dive trips, equipment and safety tips, dive sites and many others. There is also a photo gallery to show off your underwater photos and maybe a photo competition with some great prizes. Divers of all experiences and qualifications can join; even non Tasmanians! We ask that you observe some commonsense rules which apply to all public internet postings, not just Tassie Divers.

Tassie Divers is only as good as the contributions its members make. We are an online community who are enthused about our particular activity and most of us regard diving in the state of Tasmania very highly indeed. There is a perception amongst many people in Tasmania that most SCUBA divers, dive soley to fish Abalone, Lobsters and Scallops. Whilst it is true that many recreational divers hold a fishing licence and do fish, there are plenty of others who are enthralled by the underwater beauty the state has to offer as well as the sheer spirit of adventure that diving brings. It has been largely through the efforts of local dive shops and charter operators over the years that perceptions are changing and that diving is not all about hunting. Tassie Divers fully supports efforts to create and maintain Marine Protected Areas, encourage diver education and safety and have a good time below and above sea level!

Tassie Divers Forum Rules

1. No Racism, Threats, Personal Attacks, Victimisation or Hateful posts

Self explantory. If you can't have a discussion without resorting to attacking the other person, then don't post. Occasionally discussions on here will become heated depending on the topic, so if you find it hard trying to keep your emotions in check, take time out and go away to cool off. Any thread that descends into a slanging match will result in participants being appropriately dealt with. If you think a member has crossed the line, report the post (by clicking the report button below the post) rather than responding to them. It could just save you being kicked off the board.

2. Keep on topic and do not purposely railroad threads

Have some respect for the topic starter and keep to the topic being discussed. You may not think the topic is worthy of discussion, but others may. You are not the moderator, so don't take it upon yourself to decide what can and can't be discussed here. If you do wish to sidetrack from the original topic, start a new thread in the appropriate forum.

3. Don't feed trolls

A troll is a person who posts a message to purposely provoke and pull people into flaming discussion and then walk away laughing at the war that results. If you believe a person is a troll, please hit the report button to let us know about it. If no-one responds to their bait, they quickly lose interest and go somewhere else.

4. Don't post material which is knowingly false or defamatory, or violates a person's privacy.

Never 'name names' or post the personal details of others. If we discover someone has done this, we will do whatever we can to identify you to the 'victim' and you will be removed from the forum.

5. Keep personal disputes off the board

If you have a personal dispute with someone, keep it off the board. We don't want to know about it. (Usually we will only get your side of it and as we all know, there is your side, their side and the truth).

6. Ignore people who 'get up your nose'.

A forum is a community with people of all ages and backgrounds. If you stick around long enough, sooner or later you are going to encounter people who annoy you for one reason or another. Rise above it and make use of the ignore facility on the board to ignore posts by that member.

7. Please think of any possible consequences before posting.

Tassie Divers has no obligation whatsoever to remove any post you place on this forum or any personal information you post about yourself so please think carefully about any possible consequences before posting. Once you post the information, you lose all control over it. Whilst we try to help people out, we will not remove a post/topic just because you request it.

8. Tassie Divers requires that members respect the decision of moderators.

It is not an easy task moderating a forum as it contains a wide range of people with differing ideas and experiences. The moderators are only human and occasionally we will stuff up a moderating decision. Threads and posts questioning the actions or decisions of forum moderations or any abuse directed at moderators will be deleted on sight, and the appropriate action taken (up to and including forum bans) against the thread starter and/or participants. However, as a member you reserve the right to PM or email the administrator (Cubjo) regarding action taken against you. Ultimately if you are not happy, it will be in yours and our interests if you find another forum.

By using these forums, you also agree to and accept the following general terms and conditions

•The forum owner (Tassie Divers) does not actively monitor the contents of and is not responsible for any message posted. We do not vouch for, or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and are not responsible for the contents of any message. We encourage you to seek your own independent professional advice on all matters.

•The messages express the views of the author of the message, not necessarily the views of this Forum or any entity associated with this Forum. Although this Forum does not and cannot review the messages posted and is not responsible for the content of any of these messages, we reserve the right to delete any message for any or no reason whatsoever.

•You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless with respect to any claim based upon transmission of your message(s). In the event of any legal action taken as a result of a message posted by you, we reserve the right to reveal your identity (or whatever information we know about you).

•Tassie Divers has no control over any transaction that is made as a result of any post in the Wanted to buy/sell forum and accepts no responsibility whatsoever. It is up to the seller and buyer to establish the bona fides of the other party. Enter into any transaction at your own risk.

•When using this forum, your computer's IP address is recorded each time you make a post and/or join.

Warning System
This forum has a warning system in place. 95% of members on this board will never receive a warning. If you fail to observe any of the above guidelines, you may be issued with an official warning at the discretion of the moderators. In some circumstances, (at the discretion of the forum administrator), an immediate suspension or banning can be given

If you accumulate 3 warnings, you will automatically be suspended from the board for a period of 30 days. (If the 3 warnings have been accumulated within a period of 30 days however, you will be banned from the board.) If you are suspended, the warning count will be reset to 0 again.

Warnings have a life span of 3 months and will be removed after that period. You can see your current warning level under your avatar / location details on the left. You can only see your own warning level. (You cannot see others). If you click on the percentage (0% is good ), you will see your warning log where you see the comments the moderators have made as to why you were given a warning.

You are free to send a PM to Cubjo to question any warnings given, but unless you have an extremely good reason, just accept it. You may have had a 'bad day' or felt you were being attacked but you have 2 more chances (most times) to improve your behaviour so we can't be fairer than that. (If you do feel like you are being attacked, report the post and let us deal with it. It wouldn't be nice for you to receive a warning because of them.)
